Türkiye urged to halt deportation of mother facing persecution in Uzbekistan

Zebo Kadirova, a mother of four living in the İnegöl district of Bursa, was detained at her home in the early hours of June 9, 2025, and transferred to the Repatriation Centre (GGM).
Her detention has raised urgent concerns about her potential deportation to Uzbekistan, where her family fears she could face imprisonment and severe human rights abuses.
Kadirova’s husband expressed grave concerns for her safety, warning that her return to Uzbekistan would expose her to significant risks. “If she is sent back, she will face serious consequences. She has already endured imprisonment and separation from her children,” he said, referencing Kadirova’s previous one-year detention in harsh conditions at migrant camps.
Having lived in Türkiye for several years, Kadirova was reportedly assigned the “J87” code by Turkish authorities, a designation commonly associated with deportation proceedings. Her family and human rights advocates argue that deporting her would violate international protections, given the risk of persecution she faces in Uzbekistan.
The family has issued an urgent plea to Turkish authorities and international human rights organizations to intervene and halt the deportation. “She is a mother, and her only crime is seeking a safe life for her children. Deporting her under these circumstances would be inhumane,” her husband stated.
Migrant rights groups have also sounded the alarm, warning that deportations driven by political pressure from foreign governments often lead to severe mistreatment or imprisonment of returnees. Activists are calling on Türkiye to adhere to international humanitarian principles and protect individuals at risk of persecution.
The Directorate General of Migration Management has not yet issued an official statement on Kadirova’s case, leaving her legal status uncertain. As her family awaits a decision, fears grow that she could be forcibly separated from her children and sent back to face an uncertain fate in Uzbekistan. (ILKHA)
