Türkiye’s oldest woman, Hodi Gürkan, dies at 131

Hodi Gürkan, believed to be Türkiye’s oldest woman, has passed away at the age of 131 in the Viranşehir district of Şanlıurfa province, southeastern Türkiye.
According to official records, Gürkan was born on 1 July 1894. She lived her entire life in the rural Binekli neighbourhood, where she was a beloved and respected figure in the local community.
She died on Monday afternoon, surrounded by family and loved ones, who are now in mourning. Her funeral took place at the Binekli Rural Neighbourhood Cemetery, attended by relatives, neighbours, and local residents who gathered to pay their respects.
Gürkan’s remarkable longevity made her a witness to over a century of Türkiye’s history, living through periods of significant social and political change. Her passing marks the end of an extraordinary life that touched many in her community. (ILKHA)
