Türkiye, Iraq pledge deeper cooperation in fight against terrorism

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani, during which the two leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations, regional developments, and global issues of mutual concern.
According to a statement from the Turkish Presidency, the call underscored the importance both countries attach to enhancing cooperation in various fields, especially within the framework of the Development Road project. President Erdoğan emphasized that relations between Türkiye and Iraq are progressing steadily based on the principle of mutual benefit and regional stability.
During the conversation, President Erdoğan also reiterated Türkiye’s firm stance against terrorism. Referring to the ongoing "Terror-Free Türkiye" initiative, Erdoğan underlined that the process is being pursued with great care and determination. He stressed that Türkiye’s objective is the complete and permanent eradication of terrorism from the region.
“We will continue our steps decisively and remain alert against any attempts aimed at undermining this process,” Erdoğan stated.
Both leaders affirmed their commitment to strengthening ties between Ankara and Baghdad and pledged to pursue opportunities for deeper cooperation in trade, infrastructure, energy, and security.
The phone call comes at a time when both nations are seeking to bolster their strategic partnership amidst changing dynamics in the Middle East. (ILKHA)
