Turkish Presidency Communications Director Burhanettin Duran has condemned remarks by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz targeting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, saying the statements could not obscure the situation in Gaza or Israel's conduct of the war.

In a post on his NSosyal account, Duran described Katz's remarks as “disrespectful and insolent” and said they could neither “cover up what is happening in Gaza” nor erase what he characterized as the Israeli government's record from the historical memory of the international community.

Duran also referred to Katz's apparent interest in Turkish television series, saying history was not always learned from television dramas but was instead written through the collective memory of nations and what he called the conscience of humanity.

“Today, history is being written before our very eyes,” Duran said, adding that Türkiye, under Erdoğan's leadership, would continue to present itself as a voice for justice, peace and oppressed people.

He further argued that Israel's actions in Gaza had become the subject of serious international scrutiny and allegations under international law.

Duran concluded his statement by citing lines previously used by Erdoğan from a Turkish poet, emphasizing that silence would not prevent history or truth from recording events.

The exchange comes amid continuing tensions between Ankara and Tel Aviv over Israel's military campaign in Gaza. Türkiye has repeatedly condemned Israel's operations in the Palestinian enclave and called for an immediate end to the fighting, while Israeli officials have frequently criticized Erdoğan's statements on the conflict.

The Turkish government has also backed international legal proceedings concerning Israel's conduct in Gaza and has consistently called for greater international pressure to protect Palestinian civilians and facilitate humanitarian assistance. (ILKHA)
