Erdoğan launches “Housing Project of the Century” to build 500,000 social homes across Türkiye
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced the launch of what he called the “Housing Project of the Century,” a nationwide housing mobilization that aims to construct 500,000 social homes across all 81 provinces of Türkiye.
Speaking at the official launch ceremony in Istanbul, President Erdoğan said the ambitious initiative marks a new milestone in Türkiye’s ongoing development vision, which he refers to as the “Century of Türkiye.”
“In the Century of Türkiye, we are initiating a mobilization for 500,000 social houses and thus launching the ‘Housing Project of the Century’,” Erdoğan declared. “As part of the project, we will build a total of 500,000 houses across our 81 provinces.”
The President emphasized that the project will not only address housing shortages but also strengthen social welfare and provide affordable, secure living conditions for citizens. “It is vital for us to make sure that every family enjoys a warm home and a secure house, meeting their housing needs at the lowest possible cost,” Erdoğan stated.
Highlighting his government’s long-standing commitment to improving the nation’s living standards, Erdoğan reflected on more than two decades of service. “In November, we will have completed 23 years of serving the nation, almost a quarter century,” he said. “When we first took office, we said it is our duty to raise our people’s life standards, to ensure the state fulfills its social responsibilities, and to work without a break to become one of the most developed and prosperous countries in the world. Thanks be to Allah, 23 years have passed since, and throughout these years, we have always stood by our nation’s side.”
The “Housing Project of the Century” will include significant allocations for Türkiye’s largest cities. According to President Erdoğan, 100,000 of the total units will be built in Istanbul, with 50,000 on each side of the city. In addition, Ankara will receive 30,000 homes, İzmir 21,000, Bursa, Gaziantep and Konya 13,000 each, and Hatay and Diyarbakır 12,000 each.
Erdoğan underlined that his administration remains determined to sustain the momentum of national development without complacency. “Never falling into complacency, never gearing down and never losing momentum, we continue down our path at full pace,” he affirmed. “We continue to meet our nation’s every need and instill hope, confidence and joy for every household.”
The large-scale housing initiative is part of the government’s broader social and economic agenda for the coming years, designed to ensure that every citizen benefits from modern, affordable, and safe living environments. (ILKHA)
