Türkiye’s oil imports drop 10.4% in May, energy watchdog reports

Türkiye’s total oil imports fell by 10.4% in May 2025, reaching 3.97 million tons compared to the same period last year, according to data released Monday by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA).
The decline was driven by a 13.2% drop in crude oil imports, which totaled 2.48 million tons, making it the largest category of oil imports. Russia remained Türkiye’s primary supplier, delivering 2.51 million tons of crude oil and oil products. Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan followed, contributing 352,023 tons and 253,739 tons, respectively.
EMRA’s monthly report also highlighted a 17.5% decrease in oil market exports, which amounted to 1.28 million tons. Meanwhile, domestic oil product sales saw a 7.2% year-over-year increase, reaching 2.93 million tons in May.
The data reflects shifting dynamics in Türkiye’s energy market, with reduced import and export volumes contrasting with rising domestic demand for oil products. (ILKHA)
