Türkiye’s annual inflation hits 37.86% in April

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced on Monday that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) surged by 37.86% annually and 3.00% monthly in April 2025, reflecting persistent inflationary pressures in Türkiye.
The CPI (2003=100) recorded a 13.36% increase since December 2024, a 37.86% rise compared to April 2024, and a 48.73% increase on a twelve-month moving average. Among the key expenditure groups, housing saw the sharpest annual increase at 74.07%, followed by food and non-alcoholic beverages at 36.09%, and transportation at 22.76%. These groups contributed 9.98%, 9.21%, and 3.84%, respectively, to the annual CPI change.
On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 3.00%, with housing prices climbing 4.66%, transportation 3.80%, and food and non-alcoholic beverages 2.01%. Their contributions to the monthly change were 0.74%, 0.57%, and 0.51%, respectively. Of the 143 basic headings in the CPI, 121 saw increases, 18 decreased, and 4 remained unchanged.
The core CPI (index B), which excludes volatile items like unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and gold, rose by 36.81% annually and 3.10% monthly, indicating broad-based price pressures. Compared to December 2024, it increased by 12.71%, and on a twelve-month moving average, it grew by 47.82%.
