UNRWA Chief Lazzarini: Now is the time to open Gaza to full humanitarian aid

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini called for the immediate entry of large-scale humanitarian assistance into Gaza, stressing that the enclave’s reconstruction and peace depend on justice and mutual recognition after years of devastation.
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, emphasized that it is now time to allow the broad entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
In a post shared on his official X account, Lazzarini wrote:“Finally, after more than two years of darkness, a hopeful day has come as Israeli and Palestinian families reunite with their loved ones.”
“It is now time to build a future based on peace through reconstruction, justice, and mutual recognition.” he continued.
Highlighting the urgency of the humanitarian situation, the UN official underscored the need for unrestricted access for aid organizations.
“Now is the time to allow large-scale humanitarian assistance to reach Gaza through organizations, including UNRWA,” he stated.
Lazzarini’s remarks came as the international community discusses the next phase of reconstruction following the recently declared ceasefire in Gaza.
UNRWA, which has been operating under immense strain due to the occupation’s repeated attacks on its facilities and staff, continues to play a key role in providing food, medical aid, and shelter to displaced Palestinians.
Observers note that while temporary calm has returned to the region, the humanitarian crisis remains severe, with thousands still in need of immediate support and infrastructure in ruins. (ILKHA)
