Türkiye continues efforts to repatriate 14 citizens detained in Israel
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that diplomatic and logistical efforts are ongoing to bring 14 Turkish citizens, currently held in Israel, safely back to Türkiye via Jordan.
Speaking to the press, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Öncü Keçeli said: “Our work continues to ensure that the 14 citizens still detained in Israel are able to return to our country tomorrow, October 7, via Jordan.” He emphasized that the Turkish government is using all available resources to safeguard the security and well-being of its citizens.
The spokesperson also provided details about the situation of Turkish nationals aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was seized by Israeli authorities. Keçeli highlighted that the previous repatriation on October 4, involving 36 citizens, was carried out safely through a specially arranged flight, demonstrating the government’s commitment to swift and coordinated action.
Diplomatic and logistical teams are actively coordinating with relevant authorities in Israel and Jordan to ensure the safe and orderly return of the remaining 14 citizens. According to Keçeli, the specifics of the operation are expected to be finalized later today, underscoring the meticulous planning involved in such sensitive cross-border repatriations.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated that protecting the safety of its citizens abroad remains a top priority. The ongoing efforts include constant communication with local authorities, deployment of security and consular support, and preparation for any unforeseen challenges that may arise during the transfer process.
This repatriation initiative reflects Türkiye’s broader policy of prioritizing the security and rights of its nationals abroad, particularly in regions affected by heightened geopolitical tensions. Observers note that the government’s rapid mobilization and coordination with neighboring states illustrate Ankara’s ability to respond effectively to complex international incidents.(ILKHA)
