Powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake hits northern Chile

Northern Chile experienced a 7.3 magnitude earthquake late Thursday, as reported by the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake struck 45 kilometers (28 miles) east-southeast of San Pedro de Atacama, a coastal town, at a depth of 117.4 kilometers (73 miles) at 9:50 p.m. local time (0150 GMT Friday).
No immediate reports of casualties or significant damage have been received. Authorities have confirmed that there is no threat of a tsunami resulting from the earthquake.
Due to its location on the Circum-Pacific Belt, often referred to as the "Ring of Fire," Chile is no stranger to earthquakes. This makes it one of the most seismically active countries in the world. Throughout its history, Chile has faced powerful earthquakes, including a catastrophic 8.8 magnitude tremor in 2010. This event, coupled with the subsequent tsunami, tragically resulted in over 500 deaths. (ILKHA)
