Nine in critical condition following knife rampage on UK train
A shocking stabbing attack aboard a train travelling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross left ten people hospitalised on Saturday evening, including nine who remain in life-threatening condition, according to police.
The incident occurred at around 7:40 p.m. on the 6:25 p.m. service, shortly after the train departed Peterborough. The train made an unscheduled stop at Huntingdon Station in Cambridgeshire, where armed police and emergency crews rushed to the scene.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and confusion as passengers fled from the attacker. One witness reported seeing a man with a bloodied arm running down a carriage shouting, “They’ve got a knife,” while others hid in toilets or tried to escape between carriages. Police officers stormed the train at Huntingdon, restraining and Tasering one suspect on the platform.
Two men were arrested in connection with the attack, and authorities have declared it a major incident. Counter-terrorism officers are assisting the investigation, though officials have not yet classified the stabbing as an act of terrorism. Detectives are working to determine the motive and whether the suspects acted alone.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attack as “appalling” and “deeply concerning,” expressing sympathy for the victims and praising the swift response of the emergency services.
Train services along the East Coast Main Line were temporarily suspended as police secured the area and treated the wounded. Transport operators have warned of continuing disruption through the weekend as investigations proceed.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims or suspects. Police continue to appeal for witnesses and video evidence from passengers who were on board the train. Officials have urged the public to avoid speculation as they work to establish the full circumstances and motivation behind the attack. (ILKHA)
