Israeli raid in Southern Lebanon kills municipal worker
An Israeli military raid in the southern Lebanese town of Blida early Thursday resulted in the death of a municipal employee, marking a serious escalation in cross-border hostilities.
As stated by the Lebanese National News Agency, Israeli forces targeted the town, advancing more than a kilometer into Lebanese territory and storming the municipal building around 1:30 a.m. The employee, Ibrahim Salameh, was reportedly sleeping in his quarters at the time of the attack and was killed inside the premises.
Local media and state sources described the assault as a direct attack on Lebanese state institutions. Prime Minister Najib Salam condemned the raid in a statement on X social media platform, saying, “The Israeli incursion into Blida and the targeting of a municipal employee performing his duties constitutes a clear assault against Lebanese state institutions.”
The operation involved armored vehicles and personnel, highlighting the scale and precision of the Israeli incursion. The raid comes amid ongoing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border, raising concerns of further escalation in the region.
International media outlets, including Arab News, Naharnet, and The National, reported on the incident, noting the cross-border attack’s potential to worsen security conditions in southern Lebanon and provoke diplomatic responses from Beirut and its allies.
Analysts warn that such operations, particularly targeting civil servants, may undermine stability and heighten tensions between Israel and Lebanon, with potential implications for regional security and international diplomacy.(ILKHA)
