Israeli airstrikes shatter ceasefire in Gaza, dozens of Palestinians killed and injured
The fragile ceasefire in the Gaza Strip collapsed Tuesday evening as Israeli occupation forces launched a new wave of airstrikes across the enclave, killing and wounding dozens of Palestinian civilians.
Local sources reported that an Israeli drone targeted the home of the al-Banna family in the al-Sabra neighborhood, south of Gaza City, leaving multiple civilians dead and many others injured, including women and children. The attack came only days after the ceasefire was announced, marking yet another grave violation of the truce.
In a separate incident, Israeli warplanes bombed areas surrounding the al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City. One of the missiles struck an empty courtyard inside the hospital compound, causing severe damage but no reported casualties. Health officials described the attack as an attempt to intimidate medical staff and obstruct humanitarian work in one of Gaza’s few remaining functional hospitals.
The air raids also struck the al-Shati refugee camp, Abu Hasira Street in western Gaza City, and the al-Zeitoun neighborhood in the east. Meanwhile, Israeli artillery units fired heavy shells east of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, further intensifying the bombardment.
Occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the army to carry out what he described as “strong and immediate attacks,” signaling an official end to the ceasefire agreement that had provided Gaza’s exhausted population a brief reprieve from months of destruction.
Medical authorities confirmed that the death toll in Gaza has now risen to 68,531, the majority of them women and children, since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on October 7, 2023. The number of injured has surged to 170,402, while thousands remain trapped under the rubble amid severe shortages of rescue equipment and fuel.
Since the ceasefire took effect on October 11, 94 Palestinians have been killed and 344 wounded in Israeli attacks, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. Civil defense teams also recovered 474 bodies from various destroyed sites, many of them decomposed due to delayed access. Of the 195 bodies recently handed over by Israel, 75 have been identified so far.
Palestinian officials and human rights organizations condemned the renewed Israeli aggression, describing it as a continuation of the ongoing genocide and collective punishment imposed on the people of Gaza.
International observers warned that the latest escalation could completely derail diplomatic efforts to sustain peace and exacerbate the already catastrophic humanitarian crisis in the besieged Strip, where over two million people face famine, disease, and displacement.
Despite the renewed bombings, Gaza’s medical and civil defense teams continue their work amid immense danger. “We have no safe zones, no hospitals left untouched, and no guarantees of survival,” one paramedic said. “But we will keep saving lives as long as we can.” (ILKHA)
