Israel demolishes homes in Rahat, displacing dozens of Palestinian families

Israeli authorities demolished 10 homes in the city of Rahat, located in the 1948 territories, on Wednesday, displacing dozens of Palestinian residents.
The demolition was carried out under the pretext that the homes were built without permits, a claim that is frequently used by Israel to justify the destruction of Palestinian properties.
Local sources reported that large forces of Israeli police, accompanied by bulldozers, stormed the city and tore down approximately 10 homes belonging to the Al-Atayqa family. These homes were home to around 50 residents, who now find themselves homeless as a result of Israel’s actions.
This latest act of dispossession is part of a wider pattern of forced evictions and home demolitions that have long been used by Israel as a tool of displacement, seeking to further entrench its control over Palestinian land. Despite the claim of "illegal construction," many Palestinian homes are denied building permits by Israeli authorities, leaving families with no choice but to build without authorization in an attempt to preserve their homes and livelihoods.
The demolition of homes in Rahat is yet another example of Israel's ongoing campaign to erase Palestinian presence and identity, particularly in areas within the 1948 territories. The international community has widely condemned such actions, yet the destruction continues, leaving Palestinian families to face increasing hardship and injustice.
These forced demolitions not only exacerbate the humanitarian crisis but also serve to deepen the systemic discrimination faced by Palestinian citizens of Israel, whose rights continue to be violated by the Israeli state in its ongoing efforts to marginalize and dispossess them. (ILKHA)
