Iran sentences three to death for role in Shahcheragh shrine attacks

An Iranian Revolutionary Court in Shiraz has sentenced three individuals to death for their involvement in the deadly terrorist attacks on the Shahcheragh shrine in 2022 and 2023, according to Fars province Chief Justice Sadrollah Rajaei-Nasab.
The verdicts follow months of investigation and trial into the attacks, which were claimed by the Daesh terrorist group.
The three convicts were found guilty of aiding “corruption on earth,” a charge often used in Iran for severe crimes against the state or society. In addition to the death penalties, each was sentenced to 25 years in prison on separate charges. Authorities identified the individuals as key logistical supporters who supplied weapons and ammunition for the attacks on the prominent Shia religious site in southern Iran.
Four others were also convicted in the case. Two Daesh members received prison sentences of 15 and 10 years, respectively, based on their level of involvement. Additionally, two women were sentenced to five years each, with their sentences to be served under electronic monitoring within a one-kilometer radius of their homes due to special circumstances.
The Shahcheragh shrine, a major pilgrimage site, was targeted in two attacks that killed 15 people in October 2022 and August 2023. While the primary attackers were either killed or prosecuted earlier, these convictions target those who facilitated the operations.
Iran’s judiciary continues to crack down on terrorism-related activities, with officials emphasizing the importance of holding all accomplices accountable. The case remains under close scrutiny as the nation grapples with the aftermath of these tragic events. (ILKHA)
