Genocide in Gaza: Dozens killed as Israeli assault enters 601st day

The Israeli occupation army's genocidal campaign against the Gaza Strip continued unabated on Thursday, marking the 601st consecutive day of aggression.
The latest wave of airstrikes comes 73 days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu backtracked on a previously agreed ceasefire, reigniting a devastating offensive now widely described as genocidal by Palestinian sources and international observers.
According to the Palestinian Information Center (PIC), at least 41 Palestinians were killed in the latest barrage of Israeli airstrikes since dawn, as residential neighborhoods, refugee camps, and shelters came under heavy bombardment.
Strikes on Residential Areas
In central Gaza, Israeli warplanes bombed a residential block in the Al-Bureij refugee camp, killing at least 19 people. Dozens more remain trapped under rubble, with emergency crews struggling to reach survivors amid ongoing bombardment.
In northern Gaza’s Jabalia town, seven civilians, including two young girls, were killed in a pre-dawn airstrike on a home belonging to the Azzam family. The building also housed a children’s nursery sheltering displaced families.
Another airstrike in Jabalia killed three civilians and wounded several others. Meanwhile, in eastern Gaza City, Israeli aircraft struck the Al-Shuja’iyya and Al-Tuffah neighborhoods, with reports confirming multiple casualties and ongoing rescue efforts.
South Gaza Under Fire
Southern Gaza was also heavily targeted. In Khan Yunis, two Palestinians were killed in Qizan Abu Rashwan, while Mohammad Ashour and his wife, Wa’ad Al-Farra, were killed in a separate strike. In Abasan al-Kabira, the body of Jamil Awda Abu Daqa was recovered from beneath the rubble of his home.
Israeli forces also bombed the Sheikh Ajlin neighborhood in southwestern Gaza, while helicopter gunships launched attacks in the same area.
Rafah: Aid Distribution Sites Targeted
In Rafah, occupation forces fired on crowds gathered near Al-‘Alam Roundabout in search of food aid. One body was recovered early in the morning, following gunfire two days prior. Live bullets were again fired at civilians in the area on Thursday, intensifying fears of deliberate targeting of humanitarian gathering points.
Children Among the Victims
A 13-year-old boy, Ahmad Awad Sarsour, was killed in Deir al-Balah after an Israeli strike hit a tent sheltering displaced families in the Al-Baraka area.
Medical sources confirmed the recovery of the body of Alaa Mansour Jargon, killed in a strike east of Khan Yunis, and another martyr was pulled from the home of the Abu Al-Kass family in Al-Tuffah. Nearly 20 more individuals remain trapped under the debris at that site.
A Catastrophic Humanitarian Picture
The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate dramatically. Since early March, Israeli forces have imposed a near-total blockade on essential supplies, including food and medicine. Aid organizations warn that famine is gripping large swaths of the population, while the destruction of civilian infrastructure has rendered basic survival increasingly difficult.
Despite repeated international appeals, Israeli military operations continue with impunity, backed by U.S. political and military support. Analysts and human rights observers have criticized the global community for its failure to halt the escalation and prevent further civilian suffering.
With every passing day of bombardment, the Gaza Strip descends further into a catastrophic humanitarian abyss, while the calls for accountability and a lasting ceasefire grow more urgent. (ILKHA)
