Gaza death toll climbs to 73,110 as Israeli violations undermine ceasefire
The death toll from Israel's military campaign in the Gaza Strip has climbed to 73,110, the majority of them women and children, despite a ceasefire that took effect on October 11, according to Palestinian medical sources.
Health officials said Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement have continued, contributing to a steady rise in casualties across the besieged enclave. Since the start of the Israeli offensive in October 2023, at least 173,599 people have been injured, placing further strain on Gaza's devastated healthcare system.
Medical authorities stressed that the casualty figures remain incomplete, as many victims are still trapped beneath the rubble of destroyed buildings, with ambulance and civil defense teams unable to reach numerous locations due to the scale of the destruction and ongoing security risks.
According to medical sources, eight bodies and 17 injured people were brought to hospitals across the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours.
Officials added that since the ceasefire came into effect on October 11, a total of 1,084 Palestinians have been killed and 3,491 others injured in incidents linked to continued Israeli attacks and violations of the truce.
Rescue teams have also recovered 799 bodies from beneath collapsed buildings since the ceasefire began, highlighting the continuing humanitarian consequences of months of intense bombardment.
Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned that Gaza faces an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, with widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure, severe shortages of food, water and medical supplies, and thousands of families still displaced. Aid agencies continue to call for the full implementation of the ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access and greater protection for civilians as recovery efforts remain hampered by ongoing insecurity.
