Four U.S. soldiers found dead after training accident in Lithuania

NATO has confirmed the deaths of four U.S. soldiers following a tragic accident during a military exercise in Lithuania.
The incident occurred near Pabradė, close to the Belarusian border, when the soldiers’ armored recovery vehicle became submerged in a body of water during routine drills.
A coordinated search involving the U.S. Army, Lithuanian Armed Forces, and local authorities located the vehicle and the remains of the soldiers. The soldiers were part of a NATO mission, with approximately 1,000 U.S. troops currently deployed in Lithuania to enhance regional security amid rising tensions in Eastern Europe.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called the event a “deeply tragic loss,” while U.S. military officials announced an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the accident. Authorities have emphasized the importance of safety protocols during training exercises and promised further updates as the inquiry progresses.
In tribute to their service, flags at the soldiers’ base are flying at half-mast. The incident underscores the risks faced by military personnel, even in peacetime operations. (ILKHA)
