China says Japanese fishing boat expelled after entering disputed waters

China's Coast Guard said it expelled a Japanese fishing boat after it allegedly entered waters claimed by Beijing near the Diaoyu Islands.
Coast Guard spokesperson Jiang Lue said the Japanese fishing vessel Zuiho Maru entered what China described as its territorial waters off Chiwei Yu. He said coast guard personnel carried out control measures in accordance with Chinese law, issued warnings to the vessel and escorted it out of the area.
Jiang reiterated that the Diaoyu Islands and their affiliated islets are an inherent part of China's territory and urged Japan to immediately stop what he described as infringements and provocative actions in the area.
He added that the China Coast Guard would continue law enforcement and rights protection operations in the waters surrounding the Diaoyu Islands to safeguard the country's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.
Japan refers to the disputed islands as the Senkaku Islands and administers them, while China claims sovereignty over the archipelago. (ILKHA)
