At least ten Palestinians killed in Israeli assaults across Gaza
At least ten Palestinians, including a 10-year-old boy and a senior police official, were killed on Tuesday in a series of Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian medical and police authorities, as negotiations aimed at advancing a US-backed ceasefire continued in Cairo.
The latest killings underscore the continued violence facing Palestinians despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire and ease the humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave.
Palestinian health officials said Muataz Abu Shaar, a 10-year-old Palestinian boy, was shot and killed by Israeli forces in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.
The killing of the child has added to growing concerns over the continuing toll on Palestinian civilians, particularly children, amid Israel's ongoing military operations.
In northern Gaza, an Israeli airstrike struck a police facility in Jabalia, killing at least seven Palestinians, including a woman, and wounding several others, according to Palestinian medical sources.
Gaza's Interior Ministry said those killed included Colonel Mohammad Marwan Salem, head of the Jabalia police force, along with a number of police officers who were present at the facility when it was targeted.
Emergency crews rushed to recover victims from the scene and transport the wounded to nearby hospitals, which continue to operate under severe strain after months of conflict and damage to Gaza's healthcare infrastructure.
The attacks came as Hamas officials remained in Cairo for discussions on the next phase of a ceasefire initiative backed by the United States and regional mediators.
The negotiations are focused on extending the truce, securing additional prisoner exchanges, and increasing humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza.
However, the latest Israeli attacks have highlighted the fragility of the ceasefire process, with military operations continuing even as diplomatic efforts seek to prevent a return to full-scale hostilities.
The Gaza Strip continues to endure a severe humanitarian crisis after months of Israeli military operations that have devastated civilian infrastructure, displaced large segments of the population, and left hospitals struggling to cope with overwhelming needs.
Palestinian officials and humanitarian organizations have repeatedly called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, warning that continued attacks are claiming more civilian lives and further worsening living conditions for Gaza's more than two million residents.
As negotiations continue, Palestinians hope diplomatic efforts will bring an end to the violence and allow urgently needed humanitarian relief and reconstruction efforts to begin in the war-ravaged territory. (ILKHA)
