46 irregular migrants, including 18 children, rescued off Muğla coast
A total of 46 irregular migrants, among them 18 children, were rescued by Turkish Coast Guard teams off the coast of Marmaris in the southwestern province of Muğla.
According to the Turkish Coast Guard Command, 28 of the migrants — including all 18 children — were found on two life rafts that had been pushed back into Turkish territorial waters by Greek authorities. The coast guard promptly intervened and safely brought the migrants to shore.
Following the rescue, all migrants were handed over to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for processing in line with standard procedures.
Authorities have launched legal proceedings against the two detained suspects on charges of migrant smuggling.
The Turkish Coast Guard continues its efforts to prevent irregular migration and ensure the safety of lives at sea, particularly along the Aegean route, where incidents of pushbacks have been a recurring concern. (ILKHA)
