Türkiye calls for immediate halt to Israeli strikes on Syrian territory
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs sharply condemned Israel’s recent attacks on the town of Beit Jinn near Damascus, calling the strikes a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and a threat to regional security.
In a written statement issued in response to a press inquiry, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Öncü Keçeli said the attack once again revealed Israel’s “destructive agenda,” particularly at a time when the international community expresses support for Syria’s stability.
“As we approach the anniversary of 8 December, when the Syrian people gained their freedom, and at a time when the international community stands in support of Syria's stability, Israel has once again demonstrated that it is pursuing a destructive agenda with its attacks on the town of Beit Jinn on the outskirts of Damascus,” Keçeli said.
He emphasized that Israel’s military operations pose a direct threat to civilians and disrupt efforts toward restoring peace within Syria.
“Israel violates Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and poses a threat to the civilian population and regional stability through its military activities and operations despite facing no threat emanating from Syria,” the statement read.
Keçeli added that the attacks are intended to obstruct the Syrian government’s attempts to establish “security, prosperity and social cohesion” across the country. He stressed that such actions must end immediately.
“It is incumbent upon all responsible members of the international community to take action to this end,” he concluded.
The condemnation marks another instance of Türkiye publicly criticizing Israeli military actions in Syria, amid ongoing regional tensions heightened by the war in Gaza and Israel’s cross-border operations. (ILKHA)
