Istanbul police detain 12 suspects in ISIS crackdown
Istanbul police have detained 12 individuals in a coordinated operation targeting members of the terrorist organization ISIS.
The operation was conducted by the Istanbul Police Department’s Anti-Terrorism and Intelligence Units, which continue to focus on disrupting and uncovering the activities of the group.
Authorities said the suspects were identified through investigations into individuals using a secure internet-based messaging app to share training materials, including bomb-making tutorials, as well as propaganda content in support of ISIS. Many of the suspects were also active on social media, posting pro-ISIS content and reportedly preparing for potential attacks.
The operation involved simultaneous raids at 17 locations across 9 districts of Istanbul, targeting the addresses of the identified suspects.
During the raids, police seized numerous digital materials, along with 2 unlicensed firearms and 13 bullets. The 12 suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Officials emphasized that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to prevent terrorist activities and ensure public safety in the city. (ILKHA)
