Heavy fog shuts Dardanelles Strait to shipping traffic

The Dardanelles Strait has been temporarily closed to ship traffic in both directions due to dense fog, the Turkish Coastal Safety General Directorate announced today.
The closure went into effect at 09:00 local time as visibility in the strait dropped significantly, posing a safety hazard for navigation.
Officials from the Çanakkale Strait Vessel Traffic Services Directorate issued radio warnings to vessels approaching from the north and south, advising them of the closure.
The statement confirmed that the strait will remain closed until the fog clears and visibility improves sufficiently for safe navigation. The estimated time for reopening is currently unknown.
This closure is likely to cause delays for shipping companies using the Dardanelles Strait, a vital waterway connecting the Aegean Sea to the Black Sea. (ILKHA)
