The death toll from the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and neighboring Uganda has exceeded 1,000, as health authorities continue efforts to contain the spread of the deadly virus while treating hundreds of patients.

According to the latest situation report released by the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Ministry of Health, the country has confirmed 2,473 Ebola infections since the outbreak began.

The ministry said 999 people have died from the disease, while 737 patients remain in isolation receiving treatment. A further 482 patients have recovered and been discharged.

Health officials continue to strengthen surveillance, case detection, contact tracing and treatment measures in affected areas to prevent further transmission.

Ugandan health authorities reported 20 confirmed Ebola cases, including two fatalities.With the latest figures, the combined death toll in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda has reached 1,001.

Health authorities in both countries said efforts to identify new cases, trace contacts, isolate infected individuals and provide medical care remain ongoing.

Officials also stressed that national governments and international health partners are continuing to work together to contain the outbreak and prevent its further spread across the region.(ILKHA)
