Coast Guard rescues 26 migrants adrift off İzmir coast
Turkish Coast Guard teams successfully rescued twenty-six irregular migrants on Wednesday after their rubber boat experienced engine failure and began drifting in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Karaburun, İzmir.
The operation was launched following an emergency distress call reporting that the vessel was disabled and requesting assistance. In response, the Turkish Coast Guard Command dispatched the Coast Guard Ship TCSG-85 and Coast Guard Boat KB-41 to the reported location.
The teams swiftly located the drifting inflatable boat and safely brought all 26 individuals aboard. No injuries were reported among the migrants.
Following the rescue, standard health and security checks were performed. The individuals were subsequently transferred to the custody of the İzmir Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for further processing, as per Turkey's migration protocols.
The incident highlights the ongoing perilous attempts by migrants to cross the Aegean Sea, often in unseaworthy vessels, and the continued vigilance of the Turkish Coast Guard in conducting search-and-rescue operations in its territorial waters. (ILKHA)
