1.7 tons of cocaine seized in Türkiye–Spain joint anti-drug operation

A joint operation conducted by Türkiye’s Customs Enforcement and the Spanish National Police has led to the seizure of 1.7 tons of cocaine hidden in a shipment of fossil flour.
A large-scale international anti-narcotics operation, jointly carried out by Türkiye’s Ministry of Trade Customs Enforcement General Directorate and the Spanish National Police, has successfully uncovered a major cocaine trafficking attempt.
The shipment, sent from South America to Spain and transiting through Ambarlı Port in Istanbul, was detected after Turkish customs authorities identified the container as high-risk and placed it under close monitoring. During detailed inspections, officials discovered 1.7 tons of cocaine absorbed into the so-called “fossil flour.”
Following the seizure, the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation. Under the framework of a controlled delivery operation, the container was allowed to proceed to Spain in coordination with Spanish authorities.
In the second phase of the operation, Spanish National Police seized the container at Barcelona Port and arrested three suspects connected to the international smuggling network.
Officials emphasized that the operation was conducted in full coordination between Türkiye and Spain, marking another significant success in the global fight against narcotics trafficking.(ILKHA)
