Türkiye’s retail sales surge 11.5% annually in April
Türkiye’s retail and trade sectors posted significant annual growth in April 2025, despite a short-term monthly decline in overall trade volume, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute.
The trade sales volume index, based on 2021 as the reference year, rose by 9.6% in April compared to the same month in 2024. Retail sales led the annual increase, climbing 11.5%, while wholesale trade rose by 8.0%. The category encompassing wholesale and retail trade and the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles surged by 13.8%.
On a monthly basis, however, total trade sales volume fell by 3.1% in April compared to March 2025. The wholesale and retail trade and repair segment edged up slightly by 0.2%, but wholesale trade sales volume dropped sharply by 6.1%. Retail sales, in contrast, maintained upward momentum, increasing by 2.8% month-over-month.
The figures highlight ongoing strength in consumer activity and retail demand, even as wholesale trade showed signs of volatility on a monthly scale. (ILKHA)
