The Commission of Detainees and Ex-detainees Affairs announced on Tuesday that the number of detainees who have been arrested by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) since October 7, 2023 in the West Bank has risen to 8,610, following the arrest of 22 Palestinians on Monday night.
In a joint statement, the Commission and the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) said that “the total number of arrests carried out by the IOF since October 7, 2023 reached more than 8,610, as at least 22 citizens from the West Bank, including a girl, a wounded 8-year-old child, and former prisoners were rounded up.”
According to the two human rights groups, the arrests were carried out in the governorates of Tulkarem, Nablus, Tubas, Ramallah, Jericho, and Bethlehem.
The PPS revealed that Israeli soldiers opened fire at the 8-year-old Palestinian boy, Jude Hemidat, from Aqabat Jabr refugee camp in Jericho, injuring him in the neck, before he was detained from Hadassah Hospital in Al-Issawiya.
Since the Israeli aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip started on October 7 last year, the IOF has been escalating its military operations in the West Bank, claiming the lives of 497 people, and injuring about 4,950 others in addition to daily arrests, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
