A passenger bus traveling on the Karakoram Highway in northern Pakistan overturned on Friday, killing at least 20 people and injuring 21 others, according to rescue officials.
The accident occurred near Gunar Farm in the Diamer district, located in Gilgit-Baltistan. The bus, traveling from Rawalpindi to Gilgit, was carrying over 40 passengers when the incident happened around 5:30 am local time.
Rescue efforts have concluded, and the injured were transported to the nearby Chilas Hospital for treatment. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The Karakoram Highway, known for its scenic beauty, is also a challenging route with steep climbs and narrow passages. (ILKHA)
